The Last Anvil Makers Print by Nathan Greene

This beautiful collectors' print from which the Anvils in America fronticepiece was painted is printed on heavy archival acid free paper. Click the areas above for each of three details.

The painting taken from two photographs shows workers operating a steam hammer to forge an anvil using using the open die or blacksmith method of hammer forging. The people in the painting are Carl M. Wright and his father Mr. Arthur J. (Sy) Wright, anvil makers for the Columbus Forge and Iron Company. The steam hammer and the man operating it who is unidentified are from the Columbus Anvil Forging Company, makers of the Arm and Hammer anvil.

Limited edition prints are now available from the original pencil drawing. These beautiful lithographic prints are on heavy acid free archival paper in two sizes. Both sizes are numbered.

The black and white pencil drawing is the foundation of most of my paintings. They allow me to plan out the composition, arrange patterns of light and dark and refinine details before committing to the color canvas.

Black and white studies have a beauty of their own which I sometimes prefer over the full color version.
